The works consisted of a new single storey extension to the existing science laboratory facilities at Carshalton Boys Sports College. The existing external courtyard area was removed to allow new piled foundations to be installed with reinforced ground beams. The superstructure was formed from a steel portal frame clad in cavity brickwork.

The new extension provides 2nr 100m2 science laboratory teaching spaces and a preparation room. The classroom areas can be operated as one large 200m2 teaching space or divided into 2 separate 100m2 classrooms with an acoustic moveable wall. The existing gas, hot and cold water supplies were extended from the existing systems and run under the new floor build up into each sink position, a vulcathene float drainage system was installed to provide above ground drainage to the sink locations.

All areas are heated and cooled via Mitsubishi ceiling mounted cassette units, fresh air ventilation is provided by a roof mounted air handling unit providing tempered air intake and extract systems. Laboratory benching was installed by Labform during the final phase of the works.
